Must-Visit Attractions
From ancient bridges to misty mountains, Ella offers a diverse range of attractions that will leave you spellbound.
Iconic Landmark
The Nine Arch Bridge, also known as the Bridge in the Sky, is one of Sri Lanka's most iconic colonial-era railway bridges. Built entirely of stone, brick, and cement without a single piece of steel, this architectural marvel spans 91 meters at a height of 24 meters.
Surrounded by lush green tea plantations and dense jungle, the bridge offers a spectacular sight when a train passes through, creating a picture-perfect moment that has made it one of the most photographed locations in Sri Lanka.
Panoramic Views
Named after the sacred Adam's Peak due to its similar shape, Little Adam's Peak offers one of the most rewarding hiking experiences in Ella. The relatively easy 30-45 minute hike takes you through beautiful tea plantations before reaching the summit.
From the top, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views of Ella's rolling hills, lush valleys, and distant mountains. It's the perfect spot for sunrise or sunset photography and meditation.
Natural Wonder
Ravana Falls is one of the widest waterfalls in Sri Lanka, cascading down from a height of approximately 25 meters in multiple tiers. Named after the legendary King Ravana from the Hindu epic Ramayana, this waterfall holds significant cultural importance.
During the wet season, the falls become a spectacular sight with water thundering down the rocks. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pool at the base or simply relax and enjoy the misty spray and rainbow formations.
Adventure Trek
For adventure seekers, Ella Rock offers a challenging yet rewarding trek that takes about 2-3 hours to reach the summit. The trail winds through eucalyptus forests, tea plantations, and railway tracks before the final steep ascent.
The panoramic views from the top are absolutely spectacular, offering a bird's eye view of Ella Gap, Little Adam's Peak, and the endless rolling hills of Sri Lanka's hill country. It's best to start early morning to catch the sunrise.
